Variations of Tetris

variations of tetris

What started as a simple block game has evolved into a tetris empire with almost as many different variations as you can count. List below are a number of variations of Tetris with a brief description of the game. Classic Game of Tetris: Stop the blocks from reaching the top of the playing field . To do this you create lines across the playing field which then disappears giving you more room at the top.

Hatris: Not blocks this time but hats, a variety of hats. The goal of the game is to get stacks of 5 identical hats. This game was also designed by Alexy Pazhitnov, the original Tetris author Super Tetris: adds bombs, new different and special block types, and a multi player mode. In this multi-player mode of Tetris, you have a choice or co-operating together or play against each other.

Super Tetris 2 & Bombliss: this variation features a mode that include bomb locks that will destroy adjacent blocks when a line is complete. To further make things interesting, there is a ‘C’ mode which shortens the playing field when a certain number of blocks have been used.

Welltris: the blocks slide down one of four walls of a well. If a piece lands and is fully or even partially outside the well, that wall is blocked. The game is over when all four walls are blocked. This is another variation done by Alexey Pazhitnov. In writing this short article I counted over 30 official variations for your gaming pleasure . And that doesn’t count all the unofficial variations out in the wild.
